The short answer
Sales scripts and video scripts are different crafts, so the best tool depends on your channel. We tested a cold-call opener, a cold-email sequence, and a LinkedIn DM script across each tool in May 2026, scoring personalization, framework support, and objection handling.
ChatGPT was the most flexible and cheapest, and with a good prompt it produced strong scripts in any framework. Apollo and Outreach are sales engagement platforms - their scripting is weaker in isolation but far stronger in context because it draws on real prospect data and plugs into multi-step sequences. ContentIQ is a different fit entirely: it is best when your outreach is short personalized video rather than text.
How we evaluated
ContentIQ's content research team tested each tool hands-on on paid or trial plans, running the same three outreach briefs through every product in May 2026 against four disclosed criteria.
Personalization: how well the tool tailors a script to a specific prospect, role, and pain point rather than producing a generic template. Framework support: does it use recognized sales frameworks such as AIDA, PAS, or a discovery-call structure, and can you steer it? Objection handling: quality of generated rebuttals and branching for common objections. ROI and fit: approximate cost in mid-2026 against the value for a real outbound motion, including whether scripting is standalone or part of a wider platform.
We disclose that ContentIQ is our product. It is the outlier in this group because it writes video scripts, not text call scripts, so we scored it honestly on the same rubric and were clear about where it does not apply.
The comparison table
Prices are approximate as of mid-2026. Apollo and Outreach are sold as platforms, so pricing reflects seats, not a script feature alone.
| Tool | Best for | Personalization | Objection handling | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Flexible, low-cost scripts in any framework | Strong with prospect details in the prompt | Strong - generates branching rebuttals on request | ~$20/mo (Plus) |
| Apollo | SMB outbound tied to a prospect database | Strong - pulls from contact and company data | Moderate - templated, sequence-focused | ~$49/user/mo (paid tiers) |
| Outreach | Enterprise sales process and sequences | Strong - data-rich, role-based | Strong - playbook-driven rebuttals | Enterprise pricing (quote-based) |
| ContentIQ | Short personalized video DMs and outreach clips | Strong for video - hook plus per-line visuals | N/A for live calls - built for one-way video | ~$39/mo |
What we found tool by tool
ChatGPT was the best standalone script writer. Given a prospect's role, industry, and a pain point, it wrote tight cold-call openers and DM scripts in whatever framework we named, and it generated objection branches on demand. Its limit is that it knows nothing about your pipeline - you supply every detail, and it will not log activity or trigger a sequence.
Apollo shines when scripting sits on top of its prospect database. Because it already holds contact and company data, its personalization felt grounded rather than guessed, and scripts dropped straight into multi-step sequences. As a pure writer it was more templated than ChatGPT, but for an SMB outbound team that lives in Apollo, the integration is the point.
Outreach is the enterprise option. Its strength is process: role-based, playbook-driven scripts and rebuttals that fit a defined sales methodology, tied into sequences and analytics across a larger team. It is priced and built for organizations, not solo reps, and that context is where its scripting earns its keep.
ContentIQ does not write live call scripts. Where it fit was video prospecting: short, personalized video DM scripts with a hook and a visual prompt per line, written at a plain spoken-word reading level so they land in 30 to 60 seconds. For teams running video outreach, that is a real gap the text tools do not fill.
- Cheapest flexible writer: ChatGPT at around $20 per month.
- Best for SMB outbound on a database: Apollo.
- Best for enterprise sales process: Outreach.
- Best for video DM outreach: ContentIQ.
- Best objection branching from a prompt: ChatGPT.
Where ContentIQ fits
ContentIQ is built for video, not phone scripts, so it only belongs in your stack if part of your outbound is short personalized video - a Loom-style DM, a video email opener, or an outreach clip. For those, it writes a hooked script with a visual prompt on every line and keeps it short enough to actually watch.
If your sales motion is calls, emails, and text DMs, choose ChatGPT for flexibility, Apollo or Outreach for data-backed scripts inside a sequence engine. Use ContentIQ alongside them only when you want to add a video channel to the mix.
How to think about ROI
The cheapest tool is not always the highest return. ChatGPT at around $20 per month writes excellent scripts, but it does nothing about deliverability, sequencing, or activity tracking - the operational work that actually moves pipeline. If a rep already spends their day inside Apollo or Outreach, scripting in the same system removes copy-paste friction and keeps every touch logged, and that workflow saving can outweigh a higher seat price.
Run the math on your own motion. A flexible writer is the right call for a solo founder or a small team doing low-volume, highly personalized outreach. A sales engagement platform pays off once you have multiple reps, defined sequences, and enough volume that data-backed personalization and analytics matter more than raw writing quality. And if your differentiator is showing up on camera, the marginal cost of a video-script tool is small against the reply-rate lift video outreach can deliver.
Whatever you choose, the script is only the opener. Personalization beyond the first line, timing, and follow-up discipline drive results more than which AI drafted the words - so weight your spend toward the tool that fixes your actual bottleneck.
