X rules: API access and posting economics

    Last verified August 13, 2026 · re-checked weekly · 1 rule

X moved its API to pay-per-usage pricing in February 2026. The practical risk for schedulers is not a rate limit, it is a hard stop when the account's credits are exhausted.

X API v2 is credit/pay-per-usage based (default for new developers since Feb 6, 2026; legacy Basic deprecated May 21, 2026). Standard plans cap 2 million post READS per month - a retrieval cap, not a posting cap; no per-tier write caps are published. When prepaid credits run out, API requests fail until more credits are purchased.

What to do: Treat X publishing as metered spend: monitor the credit balance, enable auto-recharge, and make the posting path survive hard-stop request failures.
