Snapchat rules: who gets invited to monetize

    Last verified September 23, 2026 · re-checked weekly · 1 rule

Snapchat does not have an application form for monetization. Snap reviews creators and invites them, and its own documentation is explicit that no third party can influence that - a warning aimed at accounts selling invitations.

The published criteria are below, taken from Snap's support pages and re-checked every week. The follower count is the least demanding of them: the view-time requirement is what most creators are actually short of.

Snapchat is invitation-only, and view time matters more than followers

    Monetization eligibility

Snapchat's Monetization Program is not something you apply to. Snap says creators "may be eligible for invitation" on meeting the criteria, that "Snap regularly reviews Creators for potential invitation", and warns that "No third party controls eligibility to the Program" - a direct response to accounts selling invitations. The published criteria are to "Have at least 50,000 followers" and to "Achieve 15,000 hours of view time over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours coming from Spotlight", plus being 18 or the age of majority, publishing original advertiser-friendly content, residing in an eligible country, and holding Snap Star status. The view-time requirement is the harder one: 15,000 hours in 28 days is a far steeper bar than the follower count suggests.

What to do: Treat 50,000 followers as the least demanding of the criteria and plan around the 15,000 hours of 28-day view time, of which 3,000 must come from Spotlight specifically. Ignore anyone offering to sell you an invitation - Snap states plainly that no third party controls eligibility.

    Common questions

How many followers do you need to monetize on Snapchat?

Snap publishes 50,000 followers as one of its criteria, but that alone is not the bar. The same criteria require 15,000 hours of view time over the last 28 days, at least 3,000 of which must come from Spotlight, plus Snap Star status and an eligible country. The view-time requirement is the harder one.

Can you apply to the Snapchat Monetization Program?

No. Snap states that creators may be eligible for invitation when they meet the criteria, and that it regularly reviews creators for potential invitation. There is no application. Snap also states plainly that no third party controls eligibility, so anyone offering to sell you an invitation cannot deliver one.

Does hitting the Snapchat criteria guarantee monetization?

No. The criteria describe who may be eligible for an invitation, not who receives one. Content must also be original and advertiser-friendly and comply with Snap's Community Guidelines and monetization policies.
